An ICON because...

By the numbers alone, Don Bradman is the greatest batsman in the history of cricket – and arguably its finest player, full-stop.

As a boy, Bradman practised using a cricket stump instead of a bat, bouncing a golf ball against a rainwater tank to simulate bowling deliveries.

He made his Test debut against England in 1928, aged 20, and scored his first century in only his second international.

“The Don” soon gained an unmatched reputation for dominating bowling attacks, scoring with destructive speed. Bradman needed just four runs from his final Test innings against England in 1948 to finish his international career with a batting average of 100 – however, he was famously he was dismissed for a duck.

Yet his average of 99.94 is streets ahead of any other batsman in history, and may never be equalled.
