An ICON because...

Born on 21 April 1926 under the name Elizabeth Alexandra Mary, Queen Elizabeth II will be remembered as a central figure in modern history. Known for her wisdom, her bright outfits, and her love for horses and dogs, she lived on to become the UK's longest-serving monarch.

Upon being crowned Queen of the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth realms on 6 February 1952, she ruled for a whopping 70 years and 214 days, until her death in September 2022.
She became the longest-reigning queen in history, shattering the record set by her great-great-grandmother Queen Victoria.

As the Head of the Commonwealth, Queen Elizabeth II appeared on 33 different coins, holding the record for most currencies featuring the same individual.

The Queen is also the only individual to have opened more than one edition of the Summer Olympic Games: she first opened the 1976 Montreal Games and, 36 years later, the 2012 London Olympics.
