Greatest tree girth
The living tree with the greatest circumference (girth) is that belonging to El Árbol del Tule in Santa María del Tule, Oaxaca, Mexico. When measured by tree expert Robert Van Pelt in 2005, this Montezuma cypress (Taxodium mucronatum) was 35.4 m (116 ft) tall with a trunk girth of approximately 36.2 m (118 ft). The width of the crown was approximately 43.2 m (141 ft).
