Born in 1997, Pakistani schoolgirl Malala Yousafzai was only 17 years, 2 months and 23 days old when she became the youngest Nobel Peace Prize winner in history.
The activist received the prestigious accolade as she was advocating for educational rights in her region, Swat, after the Pakistani Taliban regimen banned girls from attending school.

In her diary, published by BBC Urdu in 2009, Malala spoke out against the Taliban’s terrorist regime.

Named one of  TIME's "100 Most Influential People in the World," on her 16th birthday she delivered a memorable speech to the United Nations, calling for equal rights to education for girls.

Malala raised her voice against inequality and injustice despite the perils that threatened her life.
In 2012, a Taliban gunman shot the activist in the head on a school bus. Although she survived the attack, Malala had to flee to England. To this day, she fights for peace and equal rights.

I speak not for myself, but for all girls and boys. I raise up my voice — not so that I can shout, but so that those without a voice can be heard.
