An ICON because...
Marathon runner Eliud Kipchoge has done more than just win races: he has challenged the limits of human physical achievement.
A two-time Olympic champion, he claimed victory at the London Marathon on four occasions and the Berlin Marathon five times – breaking the men’s marathon world record in 2018 and 2022.
In 2019, Eliud became the first person in history to run 26.2 mi (42.1 km) in under 2 hr, clocking a time of 1 hr 59 min 40 sec at the INEOS 1:59 Challenge in Vienna, Austria.
Although the technical arrangements meant that this couldn’t qualify as the official marathon record, Eliud had broken a barrier that for years had been considered impossible – and has yet to be breached by anyone else.
