An ICON because...

Few faces or indeed voices are as familiar as those of British broadcasting veteran Sir David Attenborough, who has been a fixture on TV screens for more than seven decades.

A pioneer in the early days of television, he first worked as a producer before transitioning to the other side of the camera in 1953, and that’s where he remained.

As of 2024, aged 98, his work guiding us through the wonders of the natural world from the comfort of our living rooms goes on.

Over his career, Attenborough has used his platform not just to educate and astound but increasingly to sound the alarm about the climate emergency and to urge greater action on protecting our amazing planet and all of its inhabitants.

It seems to me that the natural world is the greatest source of excitement; the greatest source of visual beauty; the greatest source of intellectual interest. It is the greatest source of so much in life that makes life worth living.”
