An ICON because...

LEGO has brought children – and adults – joy and a way to express creativity for decades, but for a few it can offer much more than that. David, who was born without his right forearm, has been experimenting with building his own prosthetic limbs out of LEGO since he was nine. Taking inspiration from Iron Man’s suit, and with support from his father, Ferran – who himself is an inventor – he achieved his goal of creating a practical prosthetic out of LEGO Technic components with his Mk-1 model in 2017. As well as since designing LEGO limbs for others, the bioengineer, who also goes by “Hand Solo”, is a vocal advocate for harnessing technology to improve inclusion and innovation.

Quote from record holder: “I feel like if I’m lucky enough to keep building these prosthetics, I can help more children and people around

I feel like if I’m lucky enough to keep building these prosthetics, I can help more children and people around the world.
