Chandra Bahadur Dangi: Shortest man ever

An ICON because...

The Nepalese record holder was 72 at the time of the 2012 adjudication, standing at a remarkable 54.6 cm (21.5 in).

He lived in a remote mountain village, sewing traditional Nepalese garments for a living and occasionally helping oversee the village's cattle. Every day Chandra shared the house with his six brothers and two sisters, all of them of average height.

His record (verified at CIWEC Clinic Travel Medicine Center in Kathmandu, Nepal on 26 February 2012) immediately gained fame and allowed Chandra to travel past his remote village. Guinness World Records Editor-in-Chief, Craig Glenday, oversaw and adjudicated the incredible record.

Although Chandra sadly passed away in 2015, his memory lives on in those who met him. Chandra represented his country with grace and unyielding positivity, and his loved ones, fellow record holders and fans remember him fondly.

I'm very happy that I'm being recognised by Guinness World Records and that my name will be written in the book. It's a big thing for my family, my village and my country. I am very happy.
