Carolyn Harris

Dr Carolyn Harris, who advises GWR on regal matters, is a historian, author, royal commentator and instructor in history at the University of Toronto School of Continuing Studies in Canada. She is an expert in the history of European monarchy, and her writing concerning the historical context for issues facing the British (and Canadian) monarchy today has appeared in many publications. Dr Harris authored Raising Royalty: 1,000 Years of Royal Parenting (2017) and Queenship and Revolution in Early Modern Europe: Henrietta Maria and Marie Antoinette (2015). She is also a prolific guest lecturer, both on land and at sea.

Longest-reigning queen ever

The longest-reigning queen ever was Her Majesty Elizabeth II (UK, b. 21 April 1926), who succeeded to the throne on 6 February 1952 on the death of her father, King George VI. She died on 8 September 2022. Until then, Queen Elizabeth II had reigned without interruption for 70 years 214 days.
