The mountain whose summit is farthest from the Earth's centre is the Andean peak of Chimborazo. It is 6,270 metres (20,571 feet) high, and lies 158 kilometres (98 miles) south of the equator in Ecuador. Its summit is approximately 6,384 kilometres (3,967 miles) from the centre of the Earth – that is more than 2 kilometres (1.2 miles) farther from Earth's core than the summit of Mount Everest, since the planet's radius in Ecuador is longer than the radius at the latitude of Everest in Nepal.
